Institutional Research
In this post i am going to be researching the media institution and how it links to my magazine. Identifying the company and what media products that they produce and how i could use it to influence my chosen media product. I think by understanding the institution and the link to my chosen product, will enable me to produce a media text that follows and reflects their style, ideologies and ethos more effectively.
Main Task (Hearst Communications)
The company I am producing my set media products for is Hearst Communications (Hearst). Hearst is an American mass media and business information conglomerate Hearst owns newspapers(The telegraph, Greenwich Time, The News-Times), magazines (Cosmopolitan, ELLE, Men's Health), television channels (Cosmopolitan TV) and television stations (ESPN, A&E Network) and this is how Hearst earns its money, their revenue in 2016 was $10.8 billion. Hearst is based in Hearst Tower in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. The company publishes 23 different magazine brands, they sell 4 million magazines per month and have 17 million digital users in the UK. They have subsidiaries in companies such as ESPN (20%), A&E Network(50%) and NorthSouth Productions (50%). It was founded on March 4th 1887 by William Randolph Hearst and it is a private independent company which is still owned by the Hearst family, is also has more than 20,000 employees. Hearsts most recent purchase was of the magazine and book businesses of Rodale in October 2017. The mission statement of Hearst is "To engage people wherever they are."
To conclude, i will create my companies own mission statement by linking it to the type of company it is and the products that i produce (magazine). I will include my companies ethos by using subtle details on my final magazine front cover which will reflect my companies ethos. Hearsts mission statement is "To inform, entertain and inspire." I am going to continue Hearsts mission statement by entertaining my audiences with an interview with an upcoming actors, this will also inspire them as the actor has come from a background that at one point he had nothing. This inspires people to work hard as anything they want is possible to achieve. Also, i will be informing my audience by telling and presenting them with all the relevant news linked to my magazine and what they may expect to find out when purchasing or reading my magazine.
Conclusion

ReplyDeleteI - You need to use Hearst mission statement in your productions... that's what this task is about... How are you going to use Hearst mission statement in your productions? How is their mission statement going to be reflected in your products?
